A baby discharged from the hospital at home with antibiotics for an ear infection subsequently discovered an abscess in the brain.
Mom Stephanie Campbell is deeply dissatisfied with the care received by her 16-month-old daughter Sophia at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport.
Stephanie called an ambulance for Sophia after her face suddenly became paralyzed and her eardrum burst.
The little girl was taken by ambulance to A & E in Stepping Hill, but was sent home after a few hours with antibiotics and a diagnosis of ear infection, reports the Manchester Evening News.
But 48 hours later, Sophia had to be rushed to the hospital after her temperature reached 40 degrees.
She spent the next six days in the children's ward in May, before finally being transferred to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
Here, she received a scan that revealed abscesses in her brain and behind her ear, an infection of her brain wall, bone lesions and a blood clot.
She immediately underwent surgery to remove the abscess from her ear, but she has always used antibiotics to try to reduce brain abscess.
Stephanie has now formally filed a complaint with Stepping Hill about the treatment of her daughter and instructed the law firm Slater and Gordon to review the case.
She says that she wants to know why her daughter has not been examined and she claims that a doctor told her that she would "happily offload" her because she was taking many antibiotics.
She claims that no one told her that she suspected the baby of having mastoiditis, a serious bacterial infection of the bone behind the ear, which could lead to complications such as abscesses in the stomach. brain.
Stephanie says that Sophia only received a single dose of steroids for her facial palsy, before finally being taken for a week at RMCH.
The mother says the situation has been so stressful that she has now left her home in Reddish to return to her home country, Ireland, in order to get closer to her family.
Stepping Hill Hospital has launched an investigation and says they will inform Stephanie of her findings.
Stephanie said, "There was a mbadive infection, I do not know how it was not visible and why not so much time wasted.
"They did not tell me what it was, they never told me his diagnosis.
"It's been a nightmare all the time, I do not have a family here, it's just us.
"They just took care of her really terribly."
A spokesperson for Stepping Hill said, "We are always striving to provide safe and high quality care to our patients and we are sorry that Mrs. Campbell is unhappy with the care her daughter receives on this occasion.
"We take all the issues raised by patients and their families very seriously, and we have opened an investigation into Ms. Campbell's concerns about the care her daughter received.
"We will share our discoveries with the family."
Kirsty Gruar, Clinical Neglect Specialist at Slater and Gordon Law Firm, said, "I can confirm that I have been asked to investigate Stephanie's very serious concerns about her daughter's care. . "
