Tema Community One police are investigating the circumstances in which armed robbers allegedly broke into the National Bank's investment bank in the Meridian enclave on Sunday dawn.

However, they did not steal anything.

According to a Ghanaian Times report, the thieves, six armed with knives and other instruments, entered the banks hall at around 2:15 am, after breaking the emergency door.

They would have searched the cashiers' drawers and secured one of the two safe keys, but threw in knowing that they could not access the safe.

According to the report, thieves also attempted to remove a flat-screen TV and a set-top box, but they abandoned it and locked it by climbing the wall of the fence.

A security officer alerted the armed police on duty and the two men rushed to the exit door, ready to confront them.

The newspaper also reported that on Saturday after the bank closed at 4:00 pm, a security guard by the name of Bernard Baah, during routine checks to make sure the switches had been turned off, had found a polythene bag containing a quantity of 35,534.00 GH Mrs. Medina Ablorh, the chief cashier, left her behind her in the trunk of one of the bank's cars parked in the yard.

Baah, after locking the bank, handed over the keys to his supervisor, Christian Ago, who sent him to the police station for him to be kept.

For unknown reasons, Baah did not immediately inform his superior of the money in the polythene bag. The money turned out to be sales of coupons from the National Lottery Authority supposed to have been paid into his account.

Interestingly, Baah informed the supervisor of the money in the polythene bag Sunday morning after the burglary operation.

The chief superintendent of the Tema community district commander, Stephen K. Kwakye, confirmed Wednesday the incident in the Ghanaian Times and said the investigation was ongoing.

At the same time, Medina Ablorh, who was arrested by police on Tuesday to help with investigations, was released on bail Wednesday.

Chief Superintendent Kwakye said that six break-ins have been registered in financial institutions located in the Meridian enclave since January 2019, adding that the police were doing everything possible to unravel those responsible for these thefts.
