A bricklayer dies at an alcohol consumption competition in Ntankoful

Obeng Hamza, a 25-year-old bricklayer, collapsed and died at the Spring Mission Clinic after participating in an Akpetsehie (local alcohol) challenge at Ntankoful in the metropolis of Sekondi-Takoradi.

The situation has plunged the community into a state of shock and sorrow, especially among the youngest.

The owner of the bar, Kojo Isaac Eshun, Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan, said Hamza, who died today, and his friend Gyentia went to his bar Friday around 9am. They ordered a bottle of local alcohol. "Akpeteshie".

The owner of the bar also revealed that the two people had consumed the drink in no time and had ordered another tour.

He said that Hamza was suddenly weak and had begun to perspire profusely and sounded the alarm but had been declared dead at the clinic while Gyentia was responding to the treatment.

Hamza's brother-in-law stated that the deceased had shamed the family and could not be buried according to Muslim customs and traditions.
