ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. (WSTM) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have warned of a so-called zombie deer disease affecting deer, elk and moose.

In January, 24 states had reported cases of chronic wasting syndrome, according to the CDC. This includes a reported case in Oneida County, New York.

MDC is a rare progressive neurodegenerative disease. Symptoms include weight loss, heckling and apathy.

The CDC said the disease was also detected in deer and elk. Experts warn against the consumption of infected deer meat.
