The number of adults seeking help from a charity to deal with an alcoholic parent has tripled in five years.

The National Alcoholic Children's Association (NACOA) has received more than 23,000 calls or messages from people over the age of 18 in need of badistance, up from 6,400 in 2013, said the Organization at the BBC.

Stephanie Page, head of the badociation's helpline, told the BBC that people whose parents started drinking later tend to face different challenges.

"The parent may have retired and is alone; they may have had problems adjusting to retirement. The adult child of the alcoholic often finds it very difficult because they have never seen it before and may not know what to do, "she said.

"It can be really surreal to see this side of your parent."

Previous research conducted by The Children's Society has found that adult alcohol abuse harms the lives of approximately 700,000 adolescents in the UK, and nearly 100 teens are homeless each day because of the alcohol abuse of their parents.

Charities have warned that as the demand for child services increases, local authority budgets are declining, leaving a growing number of children struggling to cope with the problems of living in abusive homes. alcohol or drugs is abusive.

A record number of people died as a result of alcohol in England in 2017, the NHS warning that a person was admitted to the hospital every 30 seconds because of alcohol consumption .

According to NHS figures, there were 5,843 deaths in 2017 with alcohol being the leading cause, with liver disease accounting for about 80% of these cases. This represents an increase of more than 6% over the previous year and 16% over a decade.
