A video went viral showing a young man brutally badaulted by a city guard.

The incident that took place in Agona Swedru, in the central region, captured Thursday the man, whose identity was not confirmed, surrounded by a crowd while kneeling at the edge of the road.

Without warning, a heavy shoe of a metropolitan guard of the Municipal Assembly of Swedru smashed his head from behind, collapsing above the body, amid the crowd's creams, then that a police officer was coming forward to intervene.

The video, which was discussed during the Joy FM Super Morning Show, saw many listeners on Friday accusing the police of insensitivity and complicity in the attack.

But police, in a strong reaction, parried the prosecution claiming that she had already opened an investigation into the incident.

Irene Oppong, public relations officer for the Central Region police, said on Friday that the police officer who witnessed the incident did not encourage her. She insists that it is her report that led to the ongoing investigation into the case.

"The good news is that they come from an easily identifiable institution. In the video, you could see a police officer trying to get the municipal guard to stop badaulting her, so she did what she could in the area of ​​crime prevention, she said.

According to her, agents of the citadel were also invited to participate in the ongoing investigation.

Relations between the police and civilians have been criticized lately.

On Wednesday, Interior Minister Ambrose Dery apologized for the killing of three Ghanaian Times journalists by a group of police in Accra last week.

The two journalists, Malik Sulemana and Raissa Sambou, accompanied by their driver, were badaulted by a policeman with the help of 10 other men in uniform.

It was after the officer had jumped a traffic light and ran into their vehicle.

In another incident, a driver and his companion physically badaulted a police officer who chased them after the bus driver jumped at a red light. Both are currently on trial.
