Private lawyer Edudzi Tamaklo has described as "interesting justice" the decision of a high court in Accra to annul the bail of Gregory Afoko, the main suspect in the badbadination of the late president of the region. High Patriot) Adams Mahama.

This follows a request from the Attorney General to rescind the bond that had been granted by another high court in March of this year.

The caution:

In March 2019, a high court in Accra granted the bail of Mr. Akofo who had been on trial since 2015. Mr. Geogery Akofo would have fulfilled all the conditions of bail laid down by the court.

According to reports, his older brother, Paul Afoko, former National President of the NPP, suspended, has been surety for him and has invoked property worth 10 times the amount of the bond.

But the government, through the police, refuses to release Afoko on bail, in blatant disregard of the court's decision. The Government, through the Attorney General, appealed to the Court of Appeal to have the bail decision annulled, but it was refused by the Court of Appeal.

Despite the Court's rejection of the government's decision, the Attorney General has been monitoring the continued illegal detention of Afoko in the last three months.

Contempt of court:

Mr Afoko, through his lawyers, quotes the PGI, Mr David Asante Appietu, and the President of the CID, Maame Tiwa Addo-Dankwa, for contempt of court. A petition for contempt of court is served on these officials and AG appears to represent them in court. But IGP and the head of the CID refused to appear in court.

AG in another high court:

The Attorney General asks another court to have the bond set aside, arguing that Mr. Afoko will not appear in court if the bond is not canceled without providing any evidence that Mr. Afoko could escape from jurisdiction. .

The new court therefore accepted the AG's request and canceled the bond for more than 3 months.

Public Opinion on Development:

The lawyer Edudzi Kudzo Tameklo writes that it appears that Georgery Akofo is a political prisoner – read this article below

A high court gives bail.

The Attorney General asks the same High Court to stay the execution of the bond. The High Court rejected the request.

The Attorney General reiterates the application for stay of the Court of Appeal. The Court of Appeal dismissed the claim.

Since 19 March 2019, state actors have ignored the decisions of the High Court.

After 4 months, the Republic does not ask the High Court that granted bail to revise the order, but goes to another High Court to have the bond re-examined. The High Court, constituted differently, decided to cancel the bond.

Interesting justice. The state wins. Punch for the rule of law.
