Superintendent Nketiah said that up to now, 27,000 liters of diesel had been recovered, while investigations were underway to stop other customers and recover the remaining 27,000 liters.

Recall

In its edition of Saturday, July 6, 2019, the Daily Graphic told the story of the tanker driver and his mate who had been arrested by police for allegedly burning an oil tanker in a bush near Osino, in the eastern region, after being emptied sold its diesel load of 54,000 liters.

The oil tanker, with a value of 280 260 GH ¢ of diesel fuel from Fuel Trade in Tema, was heading towards Yendi in the northern region, but was diverted and its contents sold to Tema, after which the suspects drove the empty tanker in Osino, where it is in flames.

facts

The police announced at a time last year that the owner of the DAF CF 460 truck, registered GS 264 14, had entrusted the vehicle to Yakubu and that he had also engaged Boadi as his companion.

On June 24, 2019, the truck was loaded with 54,000 liters of diesel, worth 280,260 GH ¢, at Fuel Trade in Tema for delivery to a Yendi customer.

They left Tema at night and met the owner at Community junction 18 of the Accra-Tema highway, where he paid them 2,400 GH ¢ as a daily allowance.

But instead of going to Yendi, they returned to Tema where they sold the contents of the truck before going to Osino to set it on fire.

They then called the owner of the tanker to report that they were involved in an accident that had caused the vehicle to burst.

The checks later revealed that the tanker had been emptied before the fire. In addition, the driver was far from the scene, while the second was sitting near the tanker.

The owner of the truck then took Osino's journeyman to Accra, where he lodged a complaint with the CID headquarters and handed it over to the police for further investigation.

Police investigations led to the arrest of Yakubu in his hideout in Kumasi. When he was taken to Accra, he confessed to the crime and mentioned Mohammed as being the brains of the arson.
