A resident of the area stated that the deceased had already been seen directing traffic
A young man in his thirties was found dead in Awudome in Accra after the torrential rain on Sunday night.
A head of the Urban Rescue and Rescue team of the National Organization for Natural Disaster Management on patrol mission told Citi News that they had found the dead body near A drain in the area.
Ambulance and police arrived at the scene a few minutes after the discovery of the body and transported the remains to the morgue.
A resident of the area stated that the deceased had already been seen as a traffic officer.
"I know him in the neighborhood. He is popularly known as Kweku Bonsam. He was directing traffic just around the roundabout because of the water situation. We think that he may have taken alcohol beyond his limit and that he was so carried away by the water up to that point. [where he was found dead]. "
Addressing Citi News, Archbald Cobbinah, director of the Greater Accra National Disaster Management Organization, said that they had responded to the distress call after being summoned by the residents.
He described the incident as unfortunate.
"It's an unfortunate situation. Our heart goes to the family of the deceased. The police came to get the body.
Residents said the Sunday evening rain, which lasted nearly 30 minutes, flooded the entire region.
Other parts of the capital have also been flooded.
Expect more storms with heavy rain – warns weather service
The meteorological services department predicted Sunday storms and torrential rains as the country approached the rainy season.
A few nights ago, torrential rain ravaged parts of the country, injuring people and destroying properties.
In an interview with Citi News, Joseph Portuphy, weather forecaster at the Meteorological Services Department, said Ghanaians should be prepared for more rainfall in the central belt and coastal areas.
"We are now in the rainy season, so we should definitely expect more from that. Especially those of us in the central part of the country – the forest area. Every three days, we should expect more rain. Coastal regions should also expect rain every five to six days. "
