A Senegalese driver dissatisfied with the treatment of immigrants by Italy hijacked a school bus with 49 schoolchildren and two teachers in the city of Milan and set it on fire.
The students and their teachers were taken from their school in Vailati di Crema to a gymnasium but, aware of his intentions, the driver took a different route on a provincial road leading to Milan Linate Airport.

The Senegalese driver, holding a knife, told the children and their teacher that "no one will survive". According to him, his actions stem from the way Italians treat immigrants and deaths in the Mediterranean.
According to the Milan police, while the driver was talking to his victims, a boy secretly called his mother on a cell phone, which also alerted the police.
