A fake doctor who cheated a woman encountered online about 100,000 GHc (£ 15,000) saying that it was for their marriage at Dorchester has been jailed for 18 months.
Mohamad Yousef, 37, used his photo in medical scrubs for his appointment profile and claimed to be a hospital doctor when he met the woman in May 2017.
A month later, they were betrothed and convinced his victim to take a 100,000 GHc loan and transfer 5,000 GHc (£ 800) of his savings to cover the cost of their big day.
Once the money got, Yousef disappeared, heard the Wood Green Court of Honor. The woman, aged 30, called the hospital where Yousef had claimed to work, but they had never heard of him. She then discovered that the Dorchester had no reservation.
Yousef was arrested while he was coming down from a flight to Heathrow.
He claimed to have spent up to 40,000 GHc (£ 6,000) of the stolen money for his father's emergency medical treatment, and admitted that the photo of his appointment profile had been taken while he was volunteering for Oxfam.
He confessed that he was in fact a mini-cab controller. Yousef, who lived in Tottenham, pleaded guilty to fraud by false declaration and was imprisoned.
Meanwhile, after eight years of pretending to be blind to receiving benefits, the police arrested a man who allegedly violated the law on pensions and disability.
