A father writes his own obituary to warn others about smoking

A father wrote a heartbreaking obituary for HIMSELF – to warn others of the dangers of smoking.

Geoffrey Turner, 66, is described as an "idiot" and wrote, "If you are a smoker, stop smoking – now – your life depends on it."

The father of five, who had four grandchildren, died of lung cancer on February 13th.

He was diagnosed in November and told that his smoking was caused by years of smoking.

In an obituary published in the Albany Times Union, he wrote: "I was a smoker and, although I knew that it would eventually kill me, I chose to deny myself the truth."



Mr. Turner urged people to quit because their lives depend on it

And he continued, "The pain and suffering I caused to my family was not worth the perceived" satisfaction "that was wasting money, separating me from my family and ultimately destroying me. my body.

"I have lived a decent life, but there are so many events and milestones that I will not be able to share with my loved ones.

"The moral of this story – do not be an idiot.

"Remember, life is beautiful – do not let it go up in smoke."

Sarah Huiest, Mr. Turner's daughter, told the BBC that her father had been smoking since childhood.

She said, "He always wanted to do something big."

"I am extremely proud of the selfless act of this obituary, which is why it will be the best known and it is a good thing."
