He played a loan season at Real Madrid by winning the La Liga title and spent four years at Atletico, his rival.

He returned to his childhood club Seville in 2012, winning three consecutive titles in the Europa League between 2014 and 2016. He spent a season in Espanyol and then at the Chinese club Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard before returning to Spain to join Extremadura in January.

His last match was a 1-0 win at Alcorcon on May 18th. Extremadura should face Cadiz on Sunday.
