In France, two funders were shocked to learn that their van filled with money was gone – with the third member of their team.
The van was quickly found nearby, but nothing indicated that the driver was 28 years old and 3.4 million euros in cash.
He was eventually found in an apartment in Amiens, with most of the money missing.
The suspect, named Adrien Derbez, was arrested in the city on Tuesday night.
The sudden act of disappearance occurred early Monday morning. Around 6:00 am (0500 GMT), the three-person team was making regular delivery of funds in their security van to a Western Union branch in Aubervilliers, a suburb of Paris.
Two of them took the sum of money ordered inside, letting the third man monitor the vehicle.
"When they came back, the van and the driver were gone," a police source told police.
A few blocks away, the white van of the Loomis cash-in-transit company was discovered, with the doors open and the contents emptied – and no sign from the driver.
On Tuesday, the police called in witnesses and published a photo and a description of Mr. Derbez.
Police reportedly searched an apartment in Amiens that evening, French media reported.
Around 5 pm, police reportedly found Mr. Derbez trying to escape through a window with several sacks filled with banknotes, BFMTV said.
Three other people have since been arrested as part of the investigation. A large sum of money was also recovered – and was counted to determine the missing amount, if any, said the local prosecutor.

The flight has similarities with the famous case of Toni Musulin, a Frenchman who stole about 11.6 million € from the safety van that he was driving in 2009.
He disappeared with money in November of that year, briefly becoming an internet superstar in France for his meticulously planned and bloodless holdup.
However, most of the money was found in a garage and Musulin went to the police in Monaco a few days later.
