A fuel spill causes accidents on the Accra-Tema highway

Four people were injured when the vehicles they were traveling on were involved in an accident on the Accra-Tema highway on Tuesday, January 22, 2019.

Although no deaths were recorded at the time of filing this report, the wounded were transferred to the Tema General Hospital for medical care.

The accident occurred at about 7:50 am around the Kasapreko area on the section of the highway connected to Tema.

According to the second in command of the Tema office of the Ghana National Fire Service, Divisional Officer 1 (Tim Do1) (Timothy Osafo Afum), the accident occurred after a Toyota Corolla carrying GE 1640-15 registration number skidded and reversed its fuel content on portions of the road.

DO1 Afum explained that "due to the fuel flow, the road became slippery, which resulted in a second accident involving a Nissan Navarra pickup bearing the registration number GN 9099- 16, who also skidded, injuring the driver on board.

He said the GNFS staff had to use a foam compound to remove the fuel on the road in order to avoid further slippage.
