Mr. Mahama was attacked outside his home in Bolgatanga, an acid causing his death. The investigations revealed that the two people – Mr. Afoko and Mr. Alangde – were behind his death.
"Mr. Alangde, however, fled Ghanaian jurisdiction a few days after the murder and has since fled. Ghanaian security agencies have been engaged in a hunt since then "
Mr. Afoko, however, has been apprehended by the police and has since been tried. The case is currently being tried by Judge L.L Mensah (JA) sitting as Deputy Judge at the High Court and was sent back to February 2019 to allow lawyers to address the jury.
While this trial was ongoing, constant efforts were under way to apprehend the fugitive Alangdi. He was arrested on Friday, January 25 with the help of Interpol.
End of the legal proceedings
The recent arrest of Asabke Alangdi, who was a suspect in the case, required the filing of a complaint against the Prosecutor in the ongoing trial in the case of the Republic against Gregory. Afoko.
This was done with the aim of interrupting the initial trial to allow the two accused to be judged together in order to best serve the interests of justice.
The procedure of incarceration of the two accused will soon begin to allow them to be tried as soon as possible. The State also intends to request the President of the Supreme Court to appoint a special judge for an expedited trial, taking into account the background of the case.
Oppong Nkrumah badured that the government will not give up any effort to bring to justice the perpetrators of crimes falling within the jurisdiction of the country.
