L 'Atletico Madrid announced Thursday having left Manuel Brinas, who has trained his young players for decades and acknowledged in an interview that he had badually abused a student in the 1970s.
"Once we became aware of the charges, Manuel Brinas stopped collaborating with Atletico Madrid," said the Spanish football club in a statement.
The man who accused the daily El Pais, identified as Miguel M. H., 59, claims to have been the victim of caresses and forced fellatio between 1973 and 1975.
He studied at the Catholic school where Brinas worked, as well as sports academies where Atletico Madrid recruited young players.
In 2000, they were integrated directly into the club.
In an interview published Wednesday in El Pais, Brinas admitted the violence suffered, but said that it was sporadic and that it had happened at a bad time for him.
"It was an accident after the death of the woman I was going to marry and that's all," he said.
"It happened once or twice."
Miguel, however, said that this had happened over three years.
At that time, Brinas had taken orders and belonged to the Society of Mary, who had announced in a statement that she was going to open an investigation into it.
On Thursday, El Pais unveiled four new testimonials from alumni of the school.
They allege that they were also badually abused by Brinas until the 1980s, when they were 10 to 14 years old.
