The command of the West Regional Police revealed that the alleged kidnapper was an acquaintance of the three girls who are now his victims.
Police commander of the region, Vincent Dedzoe, said at a press conference Wednesday that the three victims were "in constant communication" with the alleged kidnapper via a cell phone.
The police press conference drew media attention to the kidnapping of three girls on August 17, 2018, starting with Priscilla Blessing Bentum in the municipality of Effia-Kwesimintsim.
Ruth Love Quayson was reportedly missing on 4 December 2018 while Priscilla Koranchie, 15, was reportedly kidnapped on 21 December 2018 in Nkroful.
The suspect, Nigerian Samuel Udoterg Willison, 28, refused to speak, police said.
He is already on trial for escaping his legal detention, causing unlawful damage and resisting arrest after escaping from the Takoradi police cell on December 30, 2018.
Resumed on January 10, 2019 in an abandoned building, by "the intensity of [police] process, "was found a dress and helmet of one of the victims.
The police commander stated that they "firmly believed" that the clothes found are linking the Nigerian to the crime.
All efforts to find the girls failed because the suspect who had been arrested again led the police into a dead end, the commander said.
The western police commander, Vincent Dedzoe, said that two of the girls would be promised a job and that another would have been promised from a cell phone.
Police checks show that the suspect Samuel Udoterg Willison was sentenced in Nigeria for kidnapping. "We are dealing with a professional," he said. He urged the public to remain calm and help the police to inform.
DCOP Dedzoe said the suspect had named four other people who had played a role in the kidnapping, including a union.
