Amsterdam airport Schiphol was affected Wednesday by a failure of the aircraft refueling system.
Aircraft Fuel Supply, the company that controls the fuel supply of the planes of the third busiest airport in Europe, has encountered an electrical problem in its system. Therefore, it is not possible to refuel planes departing and arriving.
As a result, more than 180 flights were canceled. According to Eurocontrol, the landing rate has been reduced due to congestion of the ground ramp of the airport. In addition, several flights were diverted to nearby airports, including those in Düsseldorf and Rotterdam.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol said in a statement that the problem will probably continue into the evening. However, flights will be affected throughout the day. Pbadengers are asked to check with their airline. The Dutch airline KLM offers pbadengers the possibility to book or refund their flights.
