A man from central Kenya received praise after volunteering to dig a road to prevent villagers from taking a long walk to the nearby shopping center.
Nicholas Muchami, 45, a casual worker, decided to build the road after the previous road was blocked by the landowner, who accused the villagers of violating his land. Meanwhile, bushes cover the public road, making it impbadable.
The residents of Kaganda village, Muranga County, were then forced to use an indirect route of about 4 km to get to the mall.
Mr. Muchami spent six days digging the road manually.
He cleared and leveled 1.5 km of the road and plans to finish the remaining section later, after earning more money to support himself.
