A 38-year-old man who murdered his mother-in-law on charges of witchcraft in 2010 was sentenced to death by a high court sitting in Tamale.

The convict Alhbadan Alhbadan, aka Sofo, stabbed his mother-in-law, Bibata Alhbadan, to death in a bush in Zohe, a suburb of Yendi in the northern region.

He was charged with murder but pleaded not guilty.

The court, presided over by Judge Edward Apenkwa, however, convicted him and sentenced him to death.

According to the Prosecutor General of the Northern Region, Mr. Salia Abdul Quddus, the convict lived in the same house in Yendi with his father and the deceased until the death of his father.

After the death of his father, the convict left the family home and rented another room in Yendi after accusing the deceased of bewitching him, an accusation that the deceased vehemently denied.

On March 22, 2010 around 7:30 pm, the deceased went to a nearby bush in Zohe, a suburb of Yendi, to answer the call of nature.

The convict, armed with a knife, dragged the deceased and stabbed her in the chest.

According to Mr. Quddus, during the attack, the deceased appealed for help, mentioning the convict's name as her badailant, then collapsed and blew to death. .

A witness in the case who was also attending the call of the nearby nature rushed to the scene where he met the fugitive accused and saw the body of the deceased in a pool of blood.

The witness informed the MP of the region, who in turn filed a complaint with the police.

The convict was then arrested in the village of Adibo, near Yendi, where he was hiding.

During his investigation, the convict acknowledged the offense and, at the conclusion of the investigation, he was charged with a murder.
