(MENAFN – Newswire.com LLC) WAYNESVILLE, NC, March 17, 2019 (Newswire.com) – Shari Simmons, MSW, a therapist with almost three decades of experience and more than seven years of experience as a Psychology and social work teacher, LCSW, co-organizer of the new podcast Which Way? with his mother Jann Simmons. Together, they share their story of generational healing.

Jann Simmons was the victim of horrific abuse from his mother and the orphanage in which she was eventually placed. Her brain helped her to protect her by repressing her childhood memories to the point of convincing herself that they did not exist. After years of emotional and health problems that she did not understand, she made the difficult but redemptive decision to get help, to discover the horror of her past and of cure. In doing so, she found her voice and her power.

The story of Shari's mother is tragic, but it is also about courage, strength and resilience. This story as well as Shari's work as a therapist and teacher have led to their collective work as authors, speakers and advocates.

Shari and Jann continue this work in podcast media with Which Way ?, a new broadcast on the news radio network for mental health. Which way? It is intended for listeners interested in the complexity of the relationships between family members, the generational problems transmitted and the real emotions that result from them. Shari and her mother want to highlight the issues that society is stigmatized or hiding under the carpet.

Shari points out, "What most people do not understand about mental health and trauma is that we are all exposed to it. For the brain … a trauma is a trauma, whether we have experienced traumatic events in our life, that we have heard someone speak of something traumatic, or that we have announced the actuality and seen some disturbing images of the latest tragedy. At first, our brain sees this as a trauma. It can not make a difference. This means that we all live with trauma in our lives and that we often live in our limbic brain. When we are in this part of our brain, we can not access our thoughts and language. Our behavior becomes our language and it often negatively affects our relationships. In our podcast, we hope to examine the human experience and discuss the importance of following a path that allows us to heal, evolve and thrive.

The way? The podcast is about making the decision to follow the hardest path of healing, but the one that ultimately leads to peace and happiness. Shari and Jann will talk to warriors who have experienced trauma and experts who plant seeds of hope.

Which way? will focus on a wide range of topics such as parents of transgender youth, family relationships, grief / loss, mental health, domestic violence and abuse / neglect. The show offers a guest program with experience or expertise in all these areas.
