A photo of Miley Cyrus' mother with sacks of weeds opens debate on White Privilege

The Cyrus family loves the grbad, a fact turned out last week when Billy Ray Cyrus shared a picture of his wife posing with a group of large plastic bags filled with marijuana.

"Yes! As I said yesterday, @TishCyrus, how have the #CrAzYMaMa evolved," he wrote next to the photo, which he posted on Twitter and Instagram.

Tish Cyrus commented on the photo on Instagram and clarified things: "First of all … my husband @billyraycyrus is insane, secondly, this photo is also foolish, and thirdly, it's not my weed or My house! hahah. But if that was the case, it would be great for so many reasons!

In the past, Miley Cyrus has been quite frank about her penchant for smoking a lot of grbad. In 2017, she stated that she had stopped smoking and drinking completely, largely because she had had a recurring nightmare that she had died of tobacco. "It's like nobody died of weeds, but nobody ever smoked as much as I did," she said in an interview Tonight's show.

But last December, Miley revealed that her "mother has called me back," she told the Sun. "When I work, I do not think I'm working hard, I do not smoke when I work." While before, Tish had not applauded smoking, she "now smokes more than anyone I know," said Miley.

Tish's photo launched a wide-ranging online debate on white privilege and the American justice system.

Many have said that many people have been imprisoned on lesser charges of weed-eating, while the Cyrus may be open about their use without repercussions. Others have acknowledged that people of color are more likely than whites to face marijuana charges. Read some of the reactions below.
