The Minister of Aviation, Joseph Kofi Adda, announced the forthcoming establishment of a pilot training academy, which should help reduce the costs borne by interested young people who still have to travel to South Africa or in Europe to train.

Once operational, the facility will help address the pilot shortage and allow young people to enter the aviation sector.

In an interview, after meeting Ghana's youngest female driver in Accra on Monday, the minister said the government was waiting for the report on the feasibility tests of investors who would participate in setting up a training center.

Training a person as a pilot costs between $ 60,000 and $ 100,000.

Aviation is booming worldwide and demand for pilots is skyrocketing. However, there is an impending global shortage of pilots.

Statistics indicate that regions in the Middle East and Africa are in dire need of pilot projects. 30,000 pilot projects will be needed over the next decade. The aviation market in Africa is expected to reach the peak of global growth over the next 20 years.

The youngest female pilot

At the age of 21, Audrey Esi Swatson realized her dream of becoming a professional pilot after completing a three-year training at the Mach1 Aviation Academy in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2018.

After completing her first solo flight in April 2016, she obtained her private pilot license before obtaining a commercial license in 2018.

Audrey attended Ghana's Christian International High School in Dodowa after completing her basic studies at the University of Ghana's Basic School in Legon.
