If you liked A silent place and Bird box, you might want to check The silence, which looks like a hybrid of these two movies … with giant bats cast for good measure. In this post-apocalyptic thriller of Annabelle director John R. Leonetti, Kiernan Shipka and his family must distance the bats, while remaining perfectly silent. As if it were not stressful enough, the family must also escape a crazy cult. Watch The silence trailer below.
The trailer of silence
It may be unfair to compare The silence at A silent place. The film is inspired by the book of the same name (author Tim Lebbon), published in 2015 – well before A silent place hit the theaters. It's also a year after Bird box book was published, which is really insufficient – in terms of book writing – to have an impact on The silence story. Which means we should probably note the similarities between this movie and the previously mentioned titles, as a coincidence.
However, it's hard not to think about both A silent place and Bird box watching this trailer, and also reading the synopsis:
Ally Andrews (Kiernan Shipka), 16, who lost her hearing at age 13, and her family, seek refuge in a remote place. But they discover a sinister cult eager to exploit the sharp sense of Ally.
Drift aside, The silence has a nice distribution. In addition to Shipka, there are also Stanley Tucci, Miranda Otto (also co-starred with Shipka on Netflix) Sabrina's icy adventures) John Corbett, Kate Trotter and Kyle Breitkopf. Be honest: you really want to see Stanley Tucci fight giant bats, do not you? If you said no, you are a damn liar.
Bird box Netflix has been a great success. So they hope that lightning will strike twice here, although The silence does not have the advantage of opening its doors during the Thanksgiving weekend, when most people just sit in front of the TV, the hangover and the comas food. However, there might be enough buzz around this to do the business.
The silence hit Netflix on April 10, 2019.
