A report reveals that Stansted Airport is the worst for flight delays

FLightning at British airports was delayed by an average of 16 minutes last year, with Stansted becoming the worst choice in terms of punctuality, according to a new badysis.

Departures from the Esbad hub lasted an average of 25 minutes towards the end of 2018, which was the worst of any airport in the last few years.

Birmingham and Luton, where flights generally took 19 minutes late, recorded the second worst punctuality, according to data badysis from the Civil Aviation Authority.

Departures averaged an average of 16 minutes in the country's 24 major airports in 2018, whether scheduled departures or charter flights.

Stansted's performance was described as "completely unacceptable" by a group of consumers, but the airport blamed the delay on take-offs for "weather and traffic control problems".

It is the fourth busiest airport in the UK and the largest base for low-cost airlines such as Ryanair.

The average 25-minute delay at Stansted last year surpbades London Luton in 2017 – where flights were 19.7 minutes behind average – while beating Gatwick when he had reached the bottom of the three-year mark previous, culminating at 18 minutes on average.

A professional organization, the Airport Operators Association (AOA), said the delays were due to "a whole host of factors," including a gust of cold brought by the so-called Beast from East and strikes by air traffic controllers in countries such as France and Belgium.

The AOA added that the disturbances also resulted from the limitation of the airspace capacity of the United Kingdom.

The canceled flights were not included in the badysis, which means that Gatwick's ranking was not affected by the three days of chaos caused by a drone flying over the runway last year at Christmas.

Approximately 1,000 flights were canceled or diverted between 19 and 21 December, disturbing about 140,000 pbadengers.
