A senior couple who could not live without each other died in suicide pact

An elderly couple who could not stand to live without one died in a suicide pact, an investigation said.

Howard Titterton, 80, had been diagnosed with end-stage bowel cancer and his wife, Jacqueline, 78, was taking care of him at home.

After preparing the plan to end their days together, the two spouses left a spare key to a neighbor and affixed stickers on their belongings stating who would stay what.

In letters jointly signed and given to their friends, a lawyer and the police, they wrote, "Neither of us want to live without the other."

The couple was found dead at his home in St Asaph, Wales, on November 13, with an autopsy revealing that the two men had died of suffocation shortly thereafter.

Denbighshire County Councilor Andrew Thomas, who lives next to the couple, said in a statement that Titterton had begun to look frail but seemed "okay" a few days before his death.

Susan Thomas, his wife, described them as "lovely people" and said the tragedy had been a shock.

However, she added that she had found it odd that Ms. Titterton had given her a park-and-ride ticket for Chester the day before, telling her that she was not using it.

On the morning of November 13, Cllr Thomas found in his door an envelope containing £ 500 and a note stating that they had been killed.

He said he wondered if I was reading what I was and called 999, as requested by the couple.

The police found Mr. Titterton, retired director of research and development, lying in an empty bath, covered with a blanket and dressing gown, and Ms. Titterton, a former nurse, on the bed.

The investigator learned that the two men had died a short distance from each other and Ms. Titterton had apparently placed the blanket and dressing gown on her husband.

Anthony Jones, an intimate friend of their childhood with whom they had spent many holidays, was among the recipients.

He added that the couple, who did not have children, enjoyed traveling, especially cruises, and shared the same musical and photographic pbadions.
