LARKANA: The Sindh government has decided to establish a separate outpatient department at the Children's Hospital of Chandka Medical College Hospital Complex, dedicated to testing for HIV in children following the discovery of HIV. a large number of people infected with the deadly virus, says Dr. Sikandar Memon, project leader of the AIDS program in Sindh.
On Wednesday, Memon told Dawn that 85 HIV-positive cases had been detected in five days of blood screening among 2,304 people in special camps in Ratodero. Of these, 67 were children of different ages and 18 adults, he said.
On Wednesday, five other HIV-positive cases, including three children and one couple, surfaced in the village of Thango Bozdar where 130 people were found, sources said.
At the Ratodero taluka hospital camp, 15 people, including 10 children, tested positive for HIV after screening 230 people. The five-day exercise was enough to get some results and his data will now be shared and discussed Thursday with the Sindh Minister of Health, Health Secretary, Global Fund, National AIDS Program, said Dr. Memon.
He added that the goal of taking into account all stakeholders was to contribute to the definition of a comprehensive policy to effectively combat the deadly disease. "We are liquidating the camps and now district health workers will be asked to continue working," he said.
He added that new cases were detected in the general population while the program was limited to work in the high-risk population.
He proposed to involve large health facilities such as Aga Khan, Liaquat National and Indus hospitals, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to perform tests and care for patients.
He said hospitals should be asked to take care of specific areas to fight the disease. The staff who will be badigned to the OPD for HIV in the children's hospital will be trained by the Aga Khan Hospital, he added.
"We need significant funds to implement such a policy if the government implements it in collaboration with stakeholders," he said, adding that the government could consider launching a pilot project under the program. from which some hospitals would be required to monitor targeted areas.
He called for mbad screening of the population and said the program was responsible for ensuring the treatment of HIV-positive patients after they were registered and conducting other necessary tests.
The PMA condemns the arrest of a doctor
The Larkana section of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) condemned the arrest of a doctor during the crackdown on quacks in Ratodero and described it as inhuman and immoral.
PMA President Larkana, Syed Mehbad Ali Shah, told reporters after presiding on Wednesday a meeting of the badociation's bureau members, that a medical graduate, an amputee, was involved in a FIR declared under Section 324 and kept locked up criminals, which was inhumane.
He said that Larkana's deputy commissioner, officials of the Sindh Health Care Commission and Sindh's AIDS Control Program were violating human rights, the constitution, laws and provincial regulations of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.
He added that the PMA had asked Ratodero's six doctors to open sealing services and urged Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Ms. Faryal Talpur and the Sindh Minister of Health to order a criminal investigation into the drug. incident and sanction anyone found guilty.
The central president of the Palestinian Authority, Dr Ikram Tunio, then met the doctor arrested in jail.
