A sepsis survivor who left 'too late'

Scientists in Scotland are investigating whether our DNA can make us more likely to die of sepsis, a disease that kills more than 50,000 people in the UK each year.

Researchers from the University of Edinburgh have undertaken the largest study of its kind and hope that their discoveries will improve the effectiveness of treatments and save lives.

Lesley Jack called the NHS 24 with flu symptoms, but was sent directly to the hospital. She had sepsis, pneumonia and her heart stopped.

She was told that she had left her "too late" but had managed to survive this potentially lethal state.
