Residents have trouble getting water
The people of Sekondi Takoradi have been battling a severe water shortage for almost two weeks.
The shortage has severely affected homes and several educational institutions and businesses. While some areas do not have running water at the tap, others have experienced intermittent flows.
People in the most affected areas wander with their gallons, buckets, rubber bowls and other containers in search of water for their daily tasks.
They lamented that the situation affected them because they had to walk long distances to fetch water for their domestic and commercial activities.
Assakae, Chapel Hill, New Takoradi, Bankyease and Windy Ridge Extension are among the affected areas.
The others are Effiakuma, Anaji, Apowa, Bankyease and the city of Lagos – all the suburbs of Takoradi.
They therefore appealed to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) management to resolve the problem.
Ms. Comfort Arthur, resident of Assakae, stated that commercial users were primarily affected and forced to resort to water and other water supply services, claiming that the situation had adversely affected economic activities. .
Ramat Mohammed, a student at the Takoradi Technical Institute, said that after clbades, she and her colleagues had to walk long hours and join long queues to find water for their activities.
GWCL explains
GWCL's communications officer in the region, Nana Yaw Barnie, explained that during the harmattan period, the company had been forced to deploy a water rationing program to offset this effect in the area. all the city.
He indicated that the GWCL pump station at Effia was not able to receive sufficient water levels from their treatment sites to be able to be distributed in the affected areas.
"That's right, we are unable to receive adequate levels at our Effia tank to the point where there will be enough pressure to push the water to the affected areas." But I badure you that it will be soon corrected, "he added.
