Chereponi again Police make efforts to address tension in the region

The resurgence of violence in Chereponi was shot and some communities belonging to Konkombas and Chokosis were burned.

Jababu Fuad, 22, was shot dead Friday night by strangers in Nawieku and is in critical condition. He is currently undergoing treatment at Cheriponi Hospital.

The victim was hit twice: one in the right thigh and one in the right arm.

"Police reinforcements have been sent to the area to help deal with the situation," said Saturday the North District Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mohammed Yussif.

Police are making efforts to engage leaders of both ethnic groups, gathered 3news.com.

There has long been a tension between the two factions, who had even planned a confrontation on March 6th.

Saboba constituency MP Charles Bintim and his colleague in the Chereponi constituency, Samuel Jabanyiti, conveyed the disturbing development to the Minister of Defense and Bimbila MP Dominic Nitiwul.

They visited these communities as part of efforts to defuse the rising tension between the two tribes who slaughtered each other over land in Nanduni, a community in Chereponi.

More than 10 people were killed between June 2018 and January 2019 as a result of clashes between warring factions.

Police investigate the cause of the latest attacks.
