MADRID (AP) – A Spanish football team composed of a large number of migrants has found a new way to protest racist abuse suffered by players.
Players from Alma de Africa – the Spanish for "Soul of Africa" - decided to put on shirts with insults inscribed on their backs.
The team is based in Jerez de la Frontera, in southern Spain, and plays in a minor regional competition.
In addition to the locals, the team includes players from Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Côte d 'Ivoire, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Togo.
The club's mission is to "promote a better quality of life for young African immigrants living in Jérez de la Frontera and the intercultural harmony of its citizens".
