Horrible photos show the horrific injuries that a tourist has suffered after a lioness has abused his arm.
Pieter Nortje, 55, tried to caress a lion in a game reserve, but his partner reacted fiercely.
He was saved from death when a stranger struck him in the face at Tikwe River Lodge, South Africa.
But the wounds became septic and the doctors rushed to eliminate all the poison.
Addressing his home today in Bloemfontein, South Africa, Pieter said: "I was stroking a big male lion who enjoyed it then a woman came in. I think that's a good thing. she wanted to play or maybe she felt one of the cubs on me earlier and just bit in my arm.
"She tore up as well with her claw and I screamed and I think she was scared and me too and then a guy from the gaming car came to my rescue and got him punched in the nose while I was dragged. "
"It's the moment when I believe that it saved me life while the lioness was so shocked that she let go of my arm and that I was able to shoot her." through the wire and stumble towards safety by holding it against my chest. "
Pieter's wife, Illze, 50, filmed her husband caressing the lion in the compound.
In the clip, the lioness advances and suddenly grabs the right arm of the tourist with her foot.
The lioness held Pieter's arm between his teeth for five seconds as a desperate standoff unfolded earlier this month.
A stranger rushed to rescue Pieter.
The ordeal took place during the couple's holidays to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary.
Pieter added: "What immediately struck me was the incredible power of the lioness who was holding my mouth in. I immediately understood that for anyone who attacked by a lion, nothing could be done.
"The power of the beast when it attacks can only be understood if it really happens to you.
"It pulled me into the fence and I could not resist its strength but this guy hit her very hard in the nose and she let go and my arm came out and I knew that looking down was a very serious injury. "
The wearer added, "I could see the bone of my forearm and the fang marks and the flesh was torn from the claw and I knew it was a big wound caused by a bite. entered and came out of the other.
"My wife and her friend took a t-shirt and wrapped it around my bloody arm.The gamekeeper then led me to the hospital emergency and their announced that I had just been attacked by a lion.
"I had 60 stitches to close the wound, then released and returned to the playhouse. But in the middle of the night, I woke up in absolute anguish and stun and could not stand.
"It appeared that I was in a state of septic shock and that the stung wound was filled with poison. An ambulance took me to Bloemfontein hospital where she cut all the stitches and reopened the bite bitten and cleaned up all the poison and dosed me with antibiotics.
"I was then placed in a very serious condition in the intensive care unit, but fortunately the doctors overcame sepsis, I'm back home and I'm waiting for a skin graft." Will run out before I can work again. "
Tikwe River Lodge denied any responsibility by saying that there were warning signs not to touch or stroke the lions.
Pieter considers that the horror was an accident and did not blame the animals.
"The other gameplay players had all toyed with the lions and it was my last turn and it was my chance to get stung – I'm sure it was just a misunderstanding.
"I think the young woman was playing and biting me for not realizing her strength, then her instinct took over, I consider myself lucky because it could easily have cut off my arm and I would have bled. to death, "he said.
"My wife thought that she had lost me and I was told with a smell of blood in the air and all the other lions around the facility with which he could have gone in the other way and I might not have survived.
"I'm going to end up with a big, big scar on my arm, but there are not a lot of people who, when asked in a bar where they've been hurt to the point of being able to answer that question." they are fighting a lion. "
Ilze, who works as a receptionist, said, "When he let go and I saw the injury, I became hysterical, screaming and crying, afraid to lose him.
"There was so much blood, but the doctors badured me that it could have been a lot worse and that he could easily have lost his whole arm and bleeding himself even before we got him. we drove to the hospital.
"I thank God that he is alive and see him as a miracle but we will never approach a lion again."
