Black Stars striker Jordan Ayew believes that unity within the group can play a key role in Ghana's quest to win the 2019 African Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.
It's been 37 years since the Black Stars won the trophy. The long drought has not been totally disappointing given that Ghana has reached three finals since its fourth victory in 1982.
For the first time in the history of the tournament, there will be 24 participating countries. In theory, the chances of the Black Stars to win the tournament may have simply decreased by taking into account the number of teams. Nevertheless, many Ghanaians remain optimistic and another actor who seems to have joined this chain of positivity is Jordan Ayew.
Jordan, who plays for Premier League club Crystal Palace was part of the recent Black Stars team victorious against Kenya and Mauritania. The striker of the Black Stars think that if the team is united, it can go to AFCON in 2019.
"Football is a fun sport, but whenever we have the opportunity, we still have a goal. The fact is that we are getting older, that we are gaining more experience and that we all think we can get something positive this time and I think that if we continue to be united as we have been doing for a few months, I do not think we can not make a good tournament, "said the 27-year-old at Ghanaweb.com.
"I think since I was in the Black Stars, 2015 – it was not bad, but I think this team is creating a very very strong team, it's good for us because if you go to CAN, you need your colleagues.
"You can not play nine, it's a team of 23. The only thing is that the unit is the key to a tournament. If we are united in as long as the team, I think we can make a good tournament, "he added.
Jordan has been selected 52 times by the senior national team since his debut in 2010. He has scored 14 goals.
