Stanley Milgram's most famous experiment was taking people at random and telling them to electrocute someone who they thought would have had wrong answers to the questionnaire. There is now a virtual reality version and the results are revealing.
During the experiment, the participants interviewed a virtual character. A correct answer meant that they could move on, while an incorrect answer meant that the human participant had to administer a virtual electrical shake. The scientists noticed that participants sometimes tried to give the virtual avatar the right answer by pronouncing it louder – in the hope that they would not be told to shock him.
