A woman kept a creamed egg for almost 50 years – and there's a good reason why

After the death of her first husband in 1971, Jean Peters was devastated.

But, incredibly, two years later, she met a wonderful man, Dan Clark.

And on their first date in 1973, he presented him something sweet enough: a Cadbury Cream Egg.

This kind gesture sets in motion a flash romance and the next year they get married.

Jean decided not to eat the creamed egg that his future husband had given him and never withdrew the aluminum packaging once.

She has kept it over the years and has kept it even after Dan's death in 1981, leaving her widowed in her fifties.

The product has become a bit of a family heirloom and in 2010, when Jean died at the age of 94, his loved ones decided to continue preserving the chocolate egg.

Jean's granddaughter, Ainslie Peters, 48, is currently in possession of the sweet treat and she claims that it was the only item belonging to her late grandmother that she wished to keep – despite the fact that she does not really like the creamed eggs.

To this day, 46 years later, Ainslie is exhibiting this treat at her home in Kirkcaldy, Fife.

She said, "The egg is one thing I remember from all my childhood visits to my mother in Glasgow and she kept it in a showcase with her ornaments.

"My three sisters and I interviewed her about it, but she would laugh at it, and in the end, she told us the story, which Dan gave her on their first date. "

The egg now occupies a prominent place in Ainslie's own glbad cabinet, as well as an order of significance after his father's burial.

She continued: "I am a very sentimental person, I keep things simply because someone gave them to me.

"It's just that I'm a little silly."

Although having been taken from Jean's apartment in a sheltered housing unit, and then moved to Ainslie's, the egg is in remarkable condition.

The colors of the packaging are always bright – even though the writing was green in the 1970s.

Ainslie added, "I have never been tempted to even unpack it and see it under the foil and I will never eat it – I do not even like creamed eggs! "
