A workshop on the road map for the implementation of the Right to Information Act (RTI) is open in Accra.

On May 22, 2019, President Akufo-Addo approved the Law on the Right to Information (RTI) that was pbaded by Parliament in March this year.
The purpose of the RTI Act is to give effect to Article 21 (1) (f) of the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana of 1992 which states that "Everyone has the right to information subject to the qualifications and laws necessary for democratic process. society."
It also aims to operationalize the constitutional right to information of the public and certain private institutions, subject to the necessary and consistent exemptions for the safeguarding of the public interest in a democratic state.
The participants in the road map workshop for implementation were selected from civil society groups and public bodies, including UNESCO, the RTI Coalition, the Media Coalition on HIV / AIDS, and the United States. RTI and members of the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.
At the opening ceremony, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the workshop was part of the measures to align stakeholders with processes before full implementation. of the RTI in January 2020.
"RTI is a collaborative product. It is therefore important to bring stakeholders back to the roadmap for implementation, "he said.
Mr Nkrumah said the workshop would also offer participants an opportunity to make suggestions and inputs on the roadmap project for smooth implementation.
