For the first time, Iran discovered oil in an under-explored area near the port city of Abadan in the south-west of the country.
Petroleum Minister Bijan Zanganeh said the discovery was made at a depth of 3500 meters, with a 40-degree API crude oil well.
"This is the first time we have oil in the Abadan region. We have high hopes to increase the reserves around Abadan, "Zanganeh was quoted as saying. "The exploration activities will continue to determine the exact size of the tank."
