The senator representing Southeast Rivers District of the Southeast Parliament in the National Assembly, Magnus Ngei Abe, called on residents of Ogoni ethnic nationality to impregnate him with the spirit of forgiveness in order to bring peace, progress and prosperity to Ogoni.
Abe launched the appeal at a multi-party meeting of Ogoni leaders from the political clbad, academia, women, youth and the traditional institution in Saakpenwa, seat of the government region local Tai, Easter Monday.
He said that as long as there is no sincere forgiveness among the leaders and the people, peace and progress may escape them, noting that even the cleansing of the Ogoni could not take place in a climate of violence and bitterness.
The Senator urged them to put aside anything that might be responsible for their differences and to chart a new path for a new beginning.
According to Abe: "It is important that we understand that without forgiveness, this country can not go forward. We all had our differences, but we can not pursue them while Ogoni is sinking; let us forgive each other.
"It is our responsibility, as leaders of the people, to control the current state of insecurity and despair that prevails over the country, but also to put an end to it so that that peace, prosperity and progress find their place in the Ogoni country "We must restore order in this country," said Senator Abe.
Earlier, Senator Ben Birabi, Chair of the Ogoni Stakeholders' Meeting, urged leaders to recognize the failures of the past and chart a new path for a better and prosperous future for Ogonans to prevent their nationality is of ethnic origin. which can be extinguished from the peoples of the world.
In his statement, King Godwin Gininwa, chairman of the meeting and chairman of the Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Chiefs, said it would be difficult to achieve meaningful development in the region in an atmosphere devoid of peace; urge young people, in particular, to adhere to peace at all times.
