Callum Hendry was Aberdeen’s hero at Dumbarton this afternoon, putting away the late winner who sees the Dons in the Scottish Cup final 16.
“Coming into the game we knew it was going to be tough because cup games like this always are. Last night Inverness beat Ross County, so it doesn’t really matter which league you are in cup games, especially when you’re leaving home. There is always the possibility of the game being a banana peel, so all that mattered was winning the game.
“I’m here to do my best for the team. If the gaffer puts me right off the bat, that’s great but if he wants to put me on the bench and bring me in later, as long as I play my part, I’m happy. Where and when I play, I just want to score goals.
“I love to play the game, whether I start or play for half an hour, I want to make the most of it, that’s what I was born to do. I was delighted to be able to come today and make a difference and allow us to move on to the next round.
“As a team we had our problems in the last third, but you just have to keep doing the right things. I had dry zones when I didn’t score, but I never let that affect my confidence, you have to be brave.
“You must also pay homage to Dumbarton. The goalkeeper made great saves, the defenders threw themselves in front of everything, it was a draw in the Cup.
“Paul is doing a good job as a keeper here, the boys all respect him and what he does, but it will be good when the new manager arrives and we will have a little more stability at the end of the season.
“I can’t wait for Alan Russell to arrive as well because of his reputation as a forward coach. When I was a kid at Blackburn Academy I watched videos of his coaching sessions and some of them were amazing. I hope I will have the chance to have a few sessions with him.
