The Abia state government has threatened to seal off auto markets and unions that would not open for normal operations during the sit at home order on Monday.
He warned the state’s market and transport unions to ensure that markets are open while transport vehicles are deployed on the roads by their members.
“Any closed market or non-functioning transport union will be closed and dissolved, respectively, by the government until further notice.
In a statement signed by Information Commissioner Chief John Okiyi Kalu, the government said it could not afford to sit idly by and watch the future of students and economic well-being put endangered by the prolonged sit-at-home illegally imposed by a group of thugs hiding as agitators in the southeast region to wreak havoc on the state.
The statement ordered state security agencies to deploy to all lightning points on Monday and maintain regular patrols to ensure the safety and protection of law-abiding citizens and visitors.
“Leaders of all market and transport unions in the state are hereby invited to ensure that markets are open and that transport vehicles are deployed by their members for regular activities on Mondays and on- beyond, unless the government advises otherwise. Any closed market or non-functioning transport union will be closed and dissolved, respectively, by the government until further notice. We cannot continue to cut our noses despite our faces.
“We wish to state categorically that it is unacceptable to allow any individual or group to instill fear in our people to the point of negatively impacting the education of our innocent schoolchildren who are being charged to pass the compulsory English exam for the West African school certificate.
