Central Region Efutu MP Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin accused Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa of chasing political points with his rants about President Akufo-Addo’s charter flights for overseas travel .
This follows the MP for North Tongu’s decision to continually pressure the government to provide accounts for the president’s overseas travel.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has been monitoring the president’s overseas trips for months accusing him of spending huge sums of taxpayer money on luxury private jets.
According to his estimate, this year alone, the president’s trips in luxury private jets have cost the taxpayer a staggering sum of GHS 10 million.
Speaking to Joy News on Wednesday night, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, who sought to respond to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s accusations, said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) deputy was only doing propaganda.
“Sir. All of Ablakwa’s problems with this are due to political mischief. On the luxury issue, President Mahama, during the period he served, used charted jets. What he does is a partisan political argument ”, declared the member of the constituency Effutu.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin added, “It is important that you show the person their own wrongdoing. Why isn’t Mr. Ablakwa talking about Mahama’s private charter trips? He gives the impression that he is seeing this for the first time. He claims that when the NDC was in power, he was running business. If we are talking about luxury then why didn’t he travel in economy?
According to the deputy of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), President Akufo-Addo does not chat about private jets due to the luxury insisting that Samuel Okudzeto must be fair to the government.
“I don’t think that using a charter flight for this trip or any other trip is due to the need for luxury. I firmly believe that Mr. Ablakwa must be fair to the government, ”Afenyo-Markin stressed.
Also speaking on the same platform, Samuel Okudzeto stressed that he still believes that the costs incurred by charter flights are unnecessary and could be avoided to save money.
He notes that he will remain relentless and continue to press for the government to be held to account.
