About 29% of children missed school because of oral pain

Accra, March 25, GNA – A study conducted
in eight countries, showed that three out of ten children were out of school
last year as a result of oral pain.

The study, commissioned by Pepsodent, a
main brand of oral care, carried out among more than 4,000 children and
parents revealed that last year, children missed 243 million days of school
because of mouth pains all over the world, which required immediate action on the mouth
health.

The research conducted in Chile, Egypt,
France, Italy, Indonesia, the United States, Ghana and Vietnam, which are markets for
Brand Unilever, saw 500 respondents from each country.

According to the research, which was unveiled
on World Oral Health Day 2019, 37% of children with oral disease
pain in the past 12 months, had not participated in an activity at school because
of their teeth compared to 19% of those who do not have oral pain.

It said
24% of children who have experienced oral pain in the past 12 months have not increased
their hands in clbad or asked for help because they felt bad about their teeth
compared to 13% among those who do not have oral pain.

Research revealed that 32% of
children who had suffered pain in the last 12 months were more likely to
avoid socializing with their peers because of their toothache compared to 20
percent of those who did not have oral pain.

The study showed that the quality of the child
oral care could have an impact beyond obvious medical problems like bad breath
and dental pain, thus limiting their potential and a negative impact on their
own love.

Speaking at the launch of the report, Dr. Paapa
Puplampu, vice president of the Ghana Dental Association, said he could now

self esteem was on a global scale.

He said that it was important to use the result of
study to write more convincing messages, likely to generate real
change in behavior around prevention, leading to the reduction of
alarming levels of tooth decay and oral pain.

Category Manager at Unilever, said the brand was working on the prevention of
the situation through free dental exams and school programs for the past
25 years.

She said that Pepsodent's activity on the
years were aimed at spreading exceptional oral health around the world and
