Absa Bank employees support digital literacy in two elementary schools

Absa Bank Ghana’s Corporate and Investment Banking team donated 100 desktops and accessories to Kressner Children’s Home School in Amasaman and St. Anthony Catholic School in Tantra Hill.

The project, which cost 70,000 yen to refurbish and supply desktops to the two schools, aimed to help more than 200 students learn digital through teaching and learning about digital technologies. information and communication (ICT).

In a short handover ceremony, Ellen Ohene-Afoakwa, Regional Company Director, West Africa at Absa Bank, said the donation is part of the bank’s Force for Good program which encourages employees to play a meaningful role in the company.

“As a digitally led bank with an African heart, Absa is passionate about educating and developing the digital skills of young people, hence the need for us to contribute our quota to the promotion of literacy and digital inclusion in Ghana, ”Ms. Ohene said. -Afoakwa.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has truly redefined the way we learn, work and live. We therefore thought that it was opportune to equip these two schools with computers to improve the teaching and learning of ICT, ”she added.

According to Ms. Ohene-Afoakwa, it is about showing the bank’s commitment to promote education and skills development by enabling young people to become relevant to the changing needs of the world.

For his part, the priest in charge of the Kressner Family School for Children, Reverend Father Patrick Quarcoopome expressed his gratitude to Absa Bank for this kind gesture.

Reverend Quarcoopome said the support from Absa Bank will go a long way in complementing the school’s efforts to help students acquire basic digital skills.

The authorities of the two schools have promised to put the computer equipment to good use for the benefit of the pupils who will have direct experience of learning ICT.
