The Rt. The Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. (Rtd) Bliss Divine Agbeko, Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church General Assembly, Ghana, called on Ghanaians to accept the Supreme Court’s verdict and join the government in moving the country forward.

“We only have one Ghana, which needs our collective efforts and unity to develop,” he said.

Rt. The Rev. Dr Lt. Col. Agbeko appealed in an interview with Ghana’s news agency to Ho that as a people Ghanaians might have their differences, but they should not forget that “we are one people with a common destiny”.

He said, “There may be flaws here and there, but we must not allow it to degenerate into chaos.”

The moderator said the legal truth was different from the logical truth and advised Ghanaians to accept the verdict in the interests of peace.

“We have more time ahead of us, so we don’t need to plunge the country into war,” he said.

The moderator called on the Election Commission to make amends and ensure the transparency of future elections in order to gain the trust of the people.

On March 4, the Supreme Court unanimously rejected an election petition presented by former President John Mahama.

He had requested a statement that the result of the 2020 presidential election announced by the chairman of the Election Commission violated article 63 (3) of the 1992 Constitution.

He called the polls fraudulent and called for it to be overturned by the Supreme Court.

The President of the EC and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo were the first and second respondents.
