Production reached 305,727 tonnes, Alba said in a statement. Ali al Baqali will lead Alba as interim CEO, effective August 1, the company said.
Alba is on the verge of becoming the largest aluminum smelter in the world with the addition of Potline 6 in the coming weeks. The expansion is 96 percent complete, he said.
Alba started as a 120,000-tonne smelter in 1971 and in 2018, its production exceeded 1 million tonnes. The extension project for Line 6 is expected to increase its total production capacity from 540,000 mt to 1.5 million mt this year.
