A 15-year-old student at Accra Academy secondary school in Bubuashie, Accra, has been arrested for allegedly behind the recent fires at the school.
He allegedly confessed to setting the dormitory blocks on fire, including a new dormitory block, which was completely razed because he was forced into the school by these parents against his will.
The high school of two students, whose identity was withheld by the police, allegedly claimed responsibility for the last three fires which ravaged the dormitories, the personal effects of the students such as trunks, cutting boxes, food, beds and other valuables. , including money.
The fires in the school also destroyed school property, students ‘teaching materials and some of the students’ personal effects. The boy who was handed over to the police a week ago has been charged with causing unlawful damage contrary to section 172 (1) (b) of the Criminal and Other Offenses Act 1960 (Act 29 ).
During questioning by the police, the young suspect allegedly admitted to being the cause of three fires in the school. The boy reportedly told police that he burned the dormitory blocks because he didn’t like school and also because he wanted to be a day school student, instead of the boarding school option that he had. was offered upon admission. The boy, who claimed he was enrolled in the school against his will, said he had made a plan to burn down the dormitories in the hope that the school would be closed.
The suspect also wanted his boarding school status changed to a day student, following the dormitory fire.
