The Greater Accra regional CND, like many Ghanaians, is completely taken aback and strongly condemns the remarks made by Ghana 's senior minister, Osafo Marfo, about Galamsey. The senior minister said and I quote. "Bringing this lady (Aisha Huang) to prison in Ghana will not solve your economic problems. It's not going to make you happy or happy, it's not important, the most important thing is that she was expelled from Ghana. "He added:

"Taking the woman to jail will not bring us any money, that will not help us because the Synohydro project has developed its reason for being, it is a Chinese society that helps the Ghana: Putting Galamsey Queen in jail will distort relations with Ghana and China. " This is his direct statement.

On July 31, 2017, President Akufo Addo launched the Vanguard Operation Group in "fulfillment" of his campaign promise. The group's objective was to combat galamseyer activities in the most ravaged region of galamsey in Ghana. At this launch, the president said he was ready to put his "presidency" at stake to end this threat. On April 4, 2017, the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining was launched. The campaign was supposed to be an alarm signal on the damage caused to water mbades and vegetation by illegal miners. The National Commission on Civic Education, Occupy Ghana, the Chamber of Mines and other civil society organizations have all joined together to advance the government agenda in this regard.

As part of this campaign, the government spent a huge amount of its taxes to deploy soldiers to these communities, members of the Vanguard Group operation were paid with our meager resources, excavators and equipment were burnt and destroyed, livelihoods were lost, Ghanaians were sent to prison for violating our laws, illegal miners were killed for violating our environmental laws. For example, Major Maxwell Mahama was killed because of this same fight against Galamsey.

The recent statement by Osafo Marfo at a public meeting in the United States contradicts the struggle being waged by the Galamsey government. Mr. Marfo's comment is useless, defenseless, undermines the laws of Ghana and the contempt of all Ghanaians. So the question for many is: why can not Aisha Huang be sent to jail, but can other illegal miners (Ghanaians) do it? Is not it possible to punish Aisha Huang while maintaining our relations with China? Is she more humane than the rest of the illegal juveniles imprisoned? Does this not end the collective struggle of the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining and other CSOs? If the president says that he will put his presidency at stake, how will he show it he can not fire Yaw Osafo Marfo? Does Osafo Marfo tell us this, the Synohydro agreement or the Chinese no-cost loan? Is the agreement worth more than human lives, more than the loss of livelihoods, more than the degradation of our water bodies, more than our pride, our dignity as a nation? What happens to our sovereignty as a nation? What about the president's fight against Galamsey following the comment of Osafo Marfo?

In Tanzania, a court sentenced the queen of ivory of China to 15 years in prison. Yang Fenglan has been convicted of smuggling about 80 pieces of ivory over several years in Asia. Also in the UK, Kweku Adoboli, a Ghana-born investment manager, has been found guilty of unlawfully exchanging $ 2 billion as an operator for the Swiss Investment Bank, UBS. Tanzania and the United States imprisoned these foreigners for putting food on their table. happy?

As a party, we find that the "backtracking" with the president, we call on President Akufo Addo to condemn frontally the words of Osafo Marfo. Two, really clear things up in Galamsey's fight with respect to engagement or not. Third, immediately and now sack Osafo Marfo. Anything less than this will mean ONLY that President Akufo Addo agrees with these comments and that his fight against Galamsey is nothing more than a masquerade.
