The African Center for International Trade and Development (ACINTaD), in partnership with the International Trade Center (ITC), a joint United Nations and WTO organization based in Geneva, organized a two-day workshop on "Commonwealth Trade Exchanges" on January 18 and 19, 2019, at the Accra City Hotel in Accra, Ghana.

The theme of the workshop was "Preparing the Market for Export". The SheTrades in the Commonwealth project is funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and aims to increase economic growth and job creation in Commonwealth countries by enabling greater participation of women-owned businesses in the Commonwealth. international trade.

The two-day workshop was organized to provide project stakeholders and participants with an overview of the project, its objectives and activities to be undertaken, and to hear participants on key issues and challenges. challenges they face.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Isaac Hubert Arthur, Executive Director of the African Center for International Trade and Development (ACINTaD), said that women's participation in international trade was crucial to achieving of the "Program of Action Beyond Ghana's Aid".

He said that it was necessary to strengthen the capacity of business women to participate in international trade in order to contribute to the realization of the program.

According to Arthur, more women business owners should be involved in the trade policy process to ensure gender sensitivity and understanding of relevant trade policies affecting their businesses.

"The partnership with the ITC for the organization of this workshop is very strategic as both institutions focus primarily on international trade and ACINTaD will support ITC programs and activities in Ghana," added Arthur.

According to him, "we look forward to strengthening and deepening our relationship with the Geneva-based ICC to promote international trade and sustainable development in Africa".

Public sector institutions, business support organizations, women-owned businesses and private sector companies working in the shea, textile and apparel sectors and the outsourcing of IT and business processes have been well received.

The first day of the workshop focuses on ASFs and their work. Participants at the workshop included representatives from the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), the National Council of Small Industries (NBSSI), the Garment Manufacturers' Association of Ghana (AGAM). , the African Women Entrepreneurship Program (AWEP) and the Global Shea Alliance. and other stakeholders involved in the implementation of the project.

On the second day, more than 150 women-owned businesses in IT and OPL, shea, textiles and apparel, as well as ASFs from different parts of Ghana gathered to participate in the last one. day of the two-day workshop in Accra.

The African Center for International Trade and Development (ACINTaD) team collaborated with the national coordinator and ITC experts to ensure the successful organization of the workshop.
