Ghana’s active covid-19 cases soared to 2,178.
This was after 391 cases were recorded.
The Ghana Health Service, through its online portal, announced that the cumulative number of cases in the country is 58,822.
Unfortunately, the number of victims has risen to 358 while the number of recoveries currently stands at 56,286.
Ghana is currently experiencing an increase in the number of infections in the second wave.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Nurses and Midwives Association has revealed that four of its members have succumbed to the virus and is now calling on managers of all health facilities to increase their COVID19 measures in facilities.
The Association has denounced the blatant disregard for COVID19 protocols and indicates that said behavior has led to an increase in the deaths of its members.
“It is important that managers step in and put things right so that it really helps protect our members, nurses and midwives, especially in outpatient services and in other areas where direct contact with patients and clients cannot be avoided.
Association President Perpetual Ofori Ampofo called on the government to provide more PPE to save the lives of frontline workers to help them treat patients.
“The death toll has increased to four, the most recent one occurring in Kasenna Nankana district, where a number of nurses have been infected. It is a big concern. Even as of December 2020, we have seen an increase in cases among nurses and midwives. It is important to follow COVID-19 protocols. ”
“Reestablishing protocols in the facility is very important and will go a long way in protecting health workers. Personal protection kits are very important. We need them. Managers need to make sure they store these items, so that we can have enough to use. ”
